You may have received an email from Google in relation to your Analytics account being upgraded to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). If this occurs, it is due to your current website visitor tracking version being Universal Analytics (UA). Google will automatically create the new tracking property GA4 for you. However, it is useful to link this to your existing one so you can continue gathering visitor statistics.

We recommend you take this opportunity to log on to Google Analytics https://analytics.google.com/ and complete the setup. After logging on you want to click on the “Set up assistant” button or click the red button in the top right corner. You will be prompted to connect the new GA4 to your existing UA setup. Select this from the dropdown box and click to proceed to the next page. This will now connect your existing UA tagging code on your website to the new GA4.

If one is not listed, click the “create a new property” button. At this point we recommend you go with the “use an existing tag” option. At this point you have completed what is needed for the GA4 upgrade.

If you wish to fully make use of all the GA4 tracking features, you will need to complete the further setup. Google has not made this process at all easy. Click here to view a video that can assist you going through this process. At the end you will have a new “tracking code” that you can put in your website to start tracking.
