Southern Gas Services are New Zealand’s only family owned and operated industrial, specialty gases and cryogenic liquids manufacturer and distributor. They contacted Utopia to explore options for supporting their existing business management software. The system used a traditional setup requiring a Microsoft database and server infrastructure. Utopia proposed developing a new web-based portal to improve accessibility, reduce operating costs, and enhance overall functionality. The first stage of the project involved analysing the existing software. A detailed specification was produced outlining all current features and identifying how they could be improved within the new platform. This process revealed several areas for enhancement, including the way customer invoicing is handled.
The new platform was developed in several phases, including the creation of a migration system to transfer all existing data to a cloud-based solution. The system was then tested and run in parallel with the existing software. Once everything was operating smoothly, the transition to the new system was completed.
