The Library Supply Company are specialist suppliers of books to Libraries throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Owner Tony approached Utopia seeking an upgrade to their existing e-commerce website. They wanted to expand the platform to offer over 500,000 titles, along with improved ways for customers to discover them. The existing site already pulled book data from overseas suppliers, but additional suppliers and more advanced filtering of book information were required.

Utopia started with a new design which included how the customers could filter, wishlist and order items. A lot of work went into working with the data feed from the suppliers. The data decided what different filters and features could be offered, and how the customers would be able to use them. Because many orders are placed in bulk, a wishlisting and export system enables customers to manage their intended purchases more efficiently.

The new website required specialised web hosting along with automated systems to pull information from suppliers. All of this is managed outside normal business hours, ensuring the website always features the most up-to-date book information. Availability and delivery options are also calculated, enabling customers to make informed decisions, including selecting express shipping for their purchase. The website offers access to a vast range of products, with advanced caching and filtering ensuring optimal performance.

Tony says, "The reason I went with you guys to develop our new website was due to difficulties dealing with our current website provider for ten years or so, and I wanted to deal with a more one to one company. Michael has exceeded any expectations I had in regard to understanding what I wanted even when I didn’t always know myself."
